چکیده

Total white cell, neutrophil, and lymphocyte counts were compared in patients with chronic renal failure treated successively by conservative means (low-protein diet), regular haemodialysis, and renal allotransplantation. The lowest total white cell and neutrophil counts and the highest lymphocyte counts were found in patients on regular haemodialysis. A rapid fall in neutrophil count during the first half-hour of dialysis and a more gradual fall between the first and sixth hours were observed. Adherence of neutrophils and mononuclear cells to the cuprophane (PT 150) dialysis membrane has been shown.

Uremia Effect on White Blood Cell Count in Patients with Renal Failure

Introduction: It is believed that uremia causes destruction of white blood cells (WBC) and thus causes leukopenia. Therefore this study had an attempt to assess the effect of uremia on WBC count. Materials and Methods: This case control study was conducted on 120 uremic patients and 100 samples as control group. All samples were examined for determination of urea and creatinine in their seru...

Fall in peak expiratory flow during haemodialysis in patients with chronic renal failure.

Peak expiratory flow rate (PEF) was measured during haemodialysis in 30 unselected patients with chronic renal failure. The patients attended the hospital dialysis unit, where they received regular dialysis using a cuprophan dialyser with acetate buffered dialysate. Mean PEF had fallen by 60 l/min (13%) 30 minutes after the start of dialysis. In 10 of the 30 patients the fall in PEF was over 15...

Effect of Inflammation on the Relationship of Pulse Pressure and Mortality in Haemodialysis

BACKGROUND/AIM The effect of hypertension on mortality in haemodialysis patients is controversial and can be confounded by non-traditional risk factors like systemic inflammation. This study examined the effect of systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and pulse pressure (PP) on mortality in haemodialysis patients, separately with and without markers of systemic inflamma...

Effect of vitamin E-bonded dialyzer on eosinophilia in haemodialysis patients.

BACKGROUND Eosinophilia in haemodialysis patients probably results from allergy to haemodialysis-related materials, including dialyzer membranes. We examined the effects of vitamin E-bonded dialyzers on eosinophil counts in haemodialysis patients. METHODS We enrolled seven patients who were on regular haemodialysis and had sustained eosinophilia. White blood cell, eosinophil, CD4- and CD8-pos...
